Five artists interpret the emotions of grief on new album
The Church of Sweden is releasing the album Brustna hjärtan (Broken Hearts) with five artists who are currently in the spotlight – Klaudy, Prof. Stranger, Bishat, Korsvägen and Myra Granberg. On this record, the artists give their interpretations of the various emotions of grief, the aim being to support young people experiencing heartbreak.

The various stages of grief can help people manage heartbreak and gain a better understanding of their feelings. The artists therefore interpret denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance on the album.
The band Korsvägen has interpreted the feeling of depression. They describe their song as depicting how a relationship can serve as a mirror and provide support during a difficult time.
“When we are depressed, it isn’t just our own struggle – it also impacts those close to us,” says Korsvägen. “That’s why our song is about how love, guilt, hope and understanding are interwoven in times of trouble. Every obstacle forms part of life’s great pattern, and there’s beauty even in the pain.”
“We wanted the song to convey the vulnerability and dark thoughts, but also the hope and strength that can emerge through closeness and patience,” they say.
The Church of Sweden has asked young adults aged 16–30 where they turn for comfort and community. Parents, friends and music are highlighted in their responses. Where music is concerned, someone else puts your feelings into words, making you feel less alone.
“The church has extensive experience of encountering people in times of joy and sorrow, and we want to be there for everyone who is seeking support,” says Marit Norén, priest and methods developer. This album aims to provide young adults with the opportunity to talk about the painful but important feelings we all experience in life.
It is part of a bigger initiative to reach out to young adults struggling with spiritual and existential issues such as heartbreak, anxiety and lack of meaning. Along with the music, the Church of Sweden has created a Snapchat filter and a website on the same theme.
The album Brustna hjärtan will be released on 25 April.
