Whether making a flower crown, joining in the traditional ring dances or listening to live folk music, visitors of all ages are welcome to take part in a unique Swedish experience – one that has been celebrated at Skansen for over 130 years.

Festivities for the Whole Family

The midsummer programme offers a rich blend of old and new traditions:

  • Dancing and games around the maypole every day, led by traditional folk dancers and musicians.

  • Make your own leafy crown – a fun craft activity for all ages.

  • Storytelling with the ‘Wise Woman’ – explore the magical world of Swedish folklore, myths and midsummer love spells.

  • Live music all weekend – enjoy everything from traditional fiddlers by the woodland pond to cutting-edge folk with Symbio in Seglora Church, upbeat folk music from Trion Västanvinden, and a vibrant blend of Swedish and West African rhythms with Sousou & Maher Cissoko Band.

  • Evening dance with Sandins – as the sun barely sets, dance under the summer sky to live music by popular Swedish dance band Sandins. Friday and Saturday nights at the historic Galejan dance floor.

  • Midsummer market – discover traditional crafts, Swedish food and seasonal flavours.
