Prepare for an exciting encounter between the Royal Swedish Orchestra and the acclaimed contemporary composer Jacob Mühlrad when the orchestra, together with vocal soloists, the Royal Swedish Opera Chorus and conductor Alan Gilbert, invites the audience to a farewell to the Opera House ahead of the renovation and move to Gasometer. The concert consists of both classical favourites and Jacob Mühlrad's music, in original and new arrangements.

The Opera House's farewell concert will be given on the Royal Swedish Opera's main stage on November 29, 2026, at 16.00 and at 19.00. Tickets go on sale tomorrow, September 8, at 10.00.

The Royal Swedish Orchestra, celebrating their 500th anniversary in 2026, takes to the stage and plays well-known pieces by Mozart, Dvořák and Puccini side by side with music by the Swedish composer Jacob Mühlrad. The concert marks the end of the Royal Swedish Orchestra's anniversary, but also a farewell to the Opera House ahead of the five years long renovation. And the farewell is written into the music itself. The concert concludes with the finale of Joseph Haydn's Symphony No. 45, The Farewell Symphony. In one of the most famous endings in music history, the orchestra's musicians leave the stage one by one, until only a few remain. This will be a concert for the music, the memories and the audience before the doors to the opera house close.

Several of Jacob Mühlrad's works are performed in arrangements written especially for the evening, and he has curated the program together with Royal Court Kapellmeister Alan Gilbert.
