Åre 2019 will officially go “off the rails”


Åre 2019 will officially go “off the rails” on Wednesday, February 6, at the Åre Jam and you won’t want to miss it! A select group of professionals and local talent will showcase their superb creative skill and technical know-how by trying to keep their skis on the rails.

Awesome riding, fantastic music and some tricky judging will bring the excitement to a fever pitch. While no one can predict the result, a great vibe and a whole lot of fun for everyone is a sure bet.  

The venue will have two parallel lines, one difficult and the other easy.  The event is open free of charge, open to all and starts at 5 p.m. at Åre Square. Participants are still needed, so sign up right now!

Thomas Henriksson will provide the music, and Niclas Karlsson is in charge of judging. Participants include Niklas Höiem, Lukas Ericsson, Anton Lind, Jonas Bergström, Felix Bertils, Jacob Eklund, Jonathan Eklund, Felix Pettersson, Olof Halvarsson, Sam Christiansson, Felix Wahlberg and Line Asp.

The show starts at 17.00 CET at Åre torg.

Scheduled from 4-17 February 2019, Åre 2019 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships will mark the third time that the second largest winter sport event after the Olympic Winter Games is held in Åre, Sweden. After the 1954 and 2007 editions, Åre 2019 will welcome the world’s top skiers and some 120’000 visitors to an epic celebration of skiing, snow and winter. The 11 medal competitions staged in the unique atmosphere of the leading Scandinavian ski resort will excite millions of global viewers and inspire great numbers to join the sport in active practice.

Åre 2019 is the first FIS Alpine World Ski Championships ever to be certified against the ISO 20121 standard for sustainable events. The certification is one of the key elements of the sustainability program and the certification process also included an event audit to ensure that the implementation follows the plans. – In general, this is a very well executed event, with great engagement from the leadership and organization, said Sophia Engström, auditor at Research Institutes of Sweden (RISE).
