Åre 2019 wrap athletes and guests in organic cotton blankets

Christina and John Lindell started Little Lizzy Organic less than a year ago and are blanketing the 2019 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships with their soft, cuddly products. Their Stockholm-based company has supplied 1,300 specially-made 100 percent organic, non-toxic, fair-trade blankets to the athletes, sponsors and other guests at the world championships.

Environmentally-friendly and socially-responsible blankets

“We’re a 100-percent organic company,” Christina said. “We’re also an environmentally-friendly company.” Moreover, the company is socially responsible, she explained, noting that its blankets are produced in factories that pay and treat their workers fairly.

The journey began when Christina read Åre 2019’s philosophy that small steps matter when it comes to sustainability. This coincided with the company’s belief that buying Little Lizzy Organic products contribute to clean water, better health and a better environment.

“They think like we do,” Christina said. “I felt like we could do something together.”

So Christina contacted Åre 2019, made them a sample blanket and received approval to supply the championships with special gray and white blankets bearing the Åre 2019 snowflake pattern.

“We are so honored, proud and very happy to be here, “said Christina, expressing the hope that the effort will at least plant the thought in people that they should take care of nature.

The blankets are given as gifts to all competiting athletes and their coaches as well as the local organizing committee's guests visiting the Championships in Åre.

Where life can be lived - reflections of a volonteer19.2.2019 09:34:46 CETPress release

Yet another Alpine World Championship in Åre has come to an end. The third through the years. Skiers, visitors and volunteers have lived and breathed the World Championships for weeks. The organization has done the same for years. Beyond all the races that have been raced, the medals that have been awarded, something else has taken place. Perhaps the thoughts have been thought before, maybe they have been awaken when being here. Thoughts of the real meaning of life, or rather, thoughts of what kind of life we want to live. Thoughts of where our children should grow up, of where our everyday lives should take place. Where life should be lived.
