Åre Experiences beyond the World Championships

Dela

Most of us are well aware of the fact that the competing skiers need to recharge their batteries in-between the races simply to be able to last the entire championship. Re-charge, re-load, re-fill. But during the Alpine World Championships in Åre, we all need to find ways to fill up our energy-levels to cope with the intense pace during the championships. This can be arranged in different ways, one way is to experience all those things waiting to be explored outside the slopes and competitions in Åre.

Åre is a destination full of possibilities all year around, but during the Alpine World Championships a number of brands have chosen to you as a visitor extraordinary activities. Audi, gives a premonition of the future of driving, with its electrical cars, where you are given roller coaster-like ride on the ice of Lake Åre

Another electrified experience is offered by Vattenfall that offers you a ride with some of the world's first all electric snowmobiles, an experience without that familiar smell of diesel and howling engines. Instead, you travel on the ice of Lake Åre listening to the skids on the ice and snow. Vattenfall's electric snowmobiles can be found just by Holiday Club and just below the National Arena. If you chose to go by snowmobile in one direction, you have the opportunity to borrow a Swedish kick for your return journey. Finish of with a hot coffee and a chat with the students from the Event- and project management education based in Åre.

- I live here in Åre since I trained as a snow-cat driver and now I’m educating myself while I work to get a broader knowledge of events and projects, says Emelie Sjöström as she adds a fresh piece of wood to the fire pit.

For those of you who might want to get some exercise, why nut try cross-country skiing.. As a cross-country skier, you will find your much-needed recovery through the tranquility of Ullådalen. Another alternative is a visit to the cross-country arena with different well-groomed tracks running deep into the woods at the XC-arena in the Björnen area of Åre.

But if you are looking for some more motor-driven experiences, you should try the cool electric bike Rawbike, take a tour through the village of Åre and feel the future of biking knocking on your shoulder.

Down by Åre station you will find the Sponsor Village, which several companies have made their homes during the World Championships in Åre. There you will find even more to do through challenges, competitions and experiences. With VR-glasses you can run both slalom and car at Bauhaus and then you can go on the skylift to get the chance to see Åre from above at Cramo. Longines offers you some extra training their in simulator that gives you the opportunity to develop your skiing skills if needed. Then you can challenge your friends in biathlon at Europcar and as an extra treat they also offer popcorn. Simply, the best of two worlds. Competitions are waiting to be competed, prizes are waiting be won. Food can be tasted and quizzes can be quizzed.

The FIS Alpine World Championships in Åre have a strong focus on sustainability and the cooperation with Vattenfall shows that it is possible to take big steps towards being climate neutral as an organizer.

- We use the FIS Alpine World Championships in Åre to showcase our work within sustainability, where the all electric snow-mobile is a great example, says Annika Ramsköld, Sustainability Manager at Vattenfall. We have also installed solar panels on the roofs of the National Arena, and they will of course be left after the championships.

The associations Keep Sweden Clean and Protect our Winters (POW) are happy to share their knowledge and give advice on how you can contribute to a more sustainable world through your everyday life. After a day of full of experiences outside the slopes and the racing arenas, you are guaranteed to return fully loaded with 100% renewed energy. All in name of sustainability.

Where life can be lived - reflections of a volonteer19.2.2019 09:34:46 CETPressmeddelande

Yet another Alpine World Championship in Åre has come to an end. The third through the years. Skiers, visitors and volunteers have lived and breathed the World Championships for weeks. The organization has done the same for years. Beyond all the races that have been raced, the medals that have been awarded, something else has taken place. Perhaps the thoughts have been thought before, maybe they have been awaken when being here. Thoughts of the real meaning of life, or rather, thoughts of what kind of life we want to live. Thoughts of where our children should grow up, of where our everyday lives should take place. Where life should be lived.
