This sport is called skijoring and it involves teams with a horse, a rider and a skier that race along a difficult, snow-covered obstacle course. The course includes jumps, gates and rings.
Actually, skijoring is not really new. In fact, it has been around in its current form for over 100 years, having made its official debut in competition at the 1901 Nordic Games and later at the 1928 Olympics as a demonstration sport.
The competition in Åre will feature four horses and nine students from the gymnasium at the equestrian center Wången alongside invited professional and amateur skiers. The top three teams will receive prizes.
