Film i Väst’s co-produced Jim Jarmusch zombie comedy is to open Cannes Film Festival

Jim Jarmusch’s zombie comedy The Dead Don’t Die is to open the Cannes Film Festival, 14th of May. It is produced by Animal Kingdom in cooperation with Film i Väst and Chimney. VFX on the film were made by Haymaker in Göteborg.

“Film i Väst congratulates director Jim Jarmusch, whose feature The Dead Don’t Diewill compete for a Palme d’Or in the Festival de Cannes. Over the last few years Film i Väst’s co-productions featured prominently in Cannes. In 2017 Ruben Östlund won the Palme d’Or with The Square, co-produced by Film i Väst. Last year Ali Abbasi’s Border won Un Certain Regard. The two were shot in Västra Götaland, on the Swedish west coast," says Peter Possne, Head of Production at Film i Väst.

The Dead Don’t Die is set in a small peaceful town, where zombies suddenly rise to terrorize the inhabitants. Three bespectacled police officers and a strange Scottish morgue expert band together to defeat the undead.

The film has been called the greatest zombie cast ever disassembled” starring Bill Murray, Adam Driver, Chloe Sevigny, Selena Gomez, Tilda Swinton, Iggy Pop, Carol Cane, Steve Buscemi, Austin Butler, RZA, Tom Waits, Danny Glover, Caleb Landry Jones and Rosie Perez.

During the film festival in Venice Film i Väst Analysis introduces av unique, pan-European study, All that is solid melts into air – Public Film Funding at a Crossroads II. It is presented at a seminar as a part of Venice Production Bridge by Tomas Eskilsson, head of Film i Väst Analysis. Public Film and Audiovisual Policies and Funding at a Crossroads is a research project in three parts that explores and discuss the future purpose and relevance of film and audiovisual funding.
