Dela
The Cannes Film Festival today announced a selection of this year’s films in competition, and one of the feature films is Film i Väst’s co-production Border (Gräns) directed by Ali Abbasi, competing in the section Un Certain Regard.

“Film i Väst congratulates director Ali Abbasi, whose feature Border (Gräns) will compete in Un Certain Regard at the Festival de Cannes. Over the last few years Film i Väst’s co-productions have held thoroughly prominent positions in Cannes. Last year Ruben Östlund won the Palme d’Or with The Square, co-produced by Film i Väst. Both The Square and Border are shot in Västra Götaland, at the Swedish west coast, says Peter Possne, Head of Production at Film i Väst.”

Customs officer Tina is known for her extraordinary sense of smell. It’s almost as if she can sniff out the guilt on anyone hiding something.  But when Vore, a suspicious-looking man, walks past her, her abilities are challenged for the first time ever. Tina can sense Vore is hiding something she can’t identify. Even worse, she feels a strange attraction to him. As Tina develops a special bond with Vore and discovers his true identity, she also realizes the truth about herself. Tina, like Vore, does not belong to this world. Her entire existence has been one big lie and now she has to choose: keep living the lie or embrace Vore’s terrifying revelations.

Border is the first adapted novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist since the success Let The Right One In 2008.

Scriptwriters are Ali Abbasi and Isabella Eklöf together with the author John Ajvide Lindqvist. The film has been produced by Nina Bisgaard, Piodor Gustafsson and Petra Jönsson for Meta Spark & Kärnfilm AB in collaboration with Danish Meta Film Denmark and Film i Väst, SVT and CPH Filmfund and supported by Nordisk Film and TV Fund and the Swedish Film Institute. Border is distributed by TriArt Film.

Cannes Film Festival runs from 8 to 19 May.
