With the scheduled nine competitions in five days, the Audi FIS Ski World Cup Finals meant long days for the Åre 2019 organizing committee and its hard-working team of volunteers.

Unfortunately, inclement weather wrought havoc with the schedule, including the snowfall during the early part of the week, which led to two cancelled downhill training runs and heavy winds which forced the cancellation of the men’s slalom and ladies’ giant slalom competitions on Sunday.

In general, most everything worked according to plan and the organizing committee appears well-prepared for next year’s Championships.

— It has been a great learning experience and a successful dress rehearsal; we are both happy and glad. Much has gone exactly as planned but there are also some areas where we can still improve. Our team has worked really well together and is motivated to deliver excellent World Ski Championships in February 2019, said Niklas Carlsson, CEO of Åre 2019.

Estimated 9’000 visitors attended the competitions in the Arena and the two evening events at Åre Square during the week from 12-18 March 2018. This falls slightly short of the goal of 10’000 visitors mostly due to the cancellation of Sunday’s two competitions.
A number of campaigns are already in the planning to promote the Åre 2019 Championships and the organizers hope that the Swedish public will come in great numbers to see the Championships from 5-17 February 2019.

Queen of Åre 2019? Mikaela Shiffrin aims to beat Anja Pärson’s 2007 record of four medals at Åre 201930.11.2018 11:45Nyheter

Mikaela Shiffrin has been the unquestioned queen of ski racing in the last two seasons. Her start into the current season has been as strong as ever and there is no reason to doubt that she will also be one of the stars of Åre 2019. In addition to her dominance in the tech events, there is no question that Shiffrin has well arrived on the speed scene by now, so the question is, will she go after Anja Pärson’s record of four medals in February 2019?
