The SJ Mini Train – the smallest means of transportation at Åre 2019

Jämtland is a key region for Sweden's national train operator SJ, offering a daily departure to and from Åre all year around. SJ wish to encourage all to travel sustainably and make it possible for more people to travel by train. SJ is the official travel partner of Åre 2019 - and is on site with a very small version of their transport service.

SJs ambition doesn't stop at transporting visitors to and from Åre during the Championships and beyond. SJ is also on site with their Bistro and, to the joy of children of all ages, with their Mini Train which will be transporting passengers from Åre Church to the National Arena with a stop at Åre 2019 Sponsor Village. The Mini Train will only be running on race days to facilitate easy transport between Åre town and the Arena in a sustainable and fun way.

The Mini Train, which runs on HVO - a synthetical and environmentally friendly diesel substitute, has a capacity of 30 passengers per departure and will be in service from 9 February until the closing of the Championships on 17 February. It will depart every 20 minutes following the timetable below. Welcome aboard!

13 February No Mini Train service

Scheduled from 4-17 February 2019, Åre 2019 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships will mark the third time that the second largest winter sport event after the Olympic Winter Games is held in Åre, Sweden. After the 1954 and 2007 editions, Åre 2019 will welcome the world’s top skiers and some 120’000 visitors to an epic celebration of skiing, snow and winter. The 11 medal competitions staged in the unique atmosphere of the leading Scandinavian ski resort will excite millions of global viewers and inspire great numbers to join the sport in active practice.

Åre 2019 is the first FIS Alpine World Ski Championships ever to be certified against the ISO 20121 standard for sustainable events. The certification is one of the key elements of the sustainability program and the certification process also included an event audit to ensure that the implementation follows the plans. – In general, this is a very well executed event, with great engagement from the leadership and organization, said Sophia Engström, auditor at Research Institutes of Sweden (RISE).
