Witches, spring concerts, and time travels as Skansen celebrates Easter
On March 28th, this year's Easter at the world’s oldest open-air museum, Skansen in Stockholm, begins. A tradition-filled adventure for all ages. Travel back in time and experience how Easter has been celebrated in the past, attend a spring concert, listen to tales of witches and magical beings, make your own broomstick or try Ukrainian egg painting.
From March 28th to April 7th, it's time for this year's Easter at Skansen. The days offer a mix of activities for young and old alike. Guests can journey back in time and experience various Easter celebrations from the past or be fascinated by historic tales of witches and magical beings.
- We want our guests to experience history in a fun way and through it, discover new things and see new connections between history, present, and future. Easter has been celebrated in many different ways over the years, and at Skansen, you can step into everything from a 'long and somber' Good Friday in the 1870s with pickled herring and potatoes to the lively 1930s with decorations, crafts, and imaginative Easter dishes, says Eva Ramberg, head of the cultural history department at Skansen.
Furthermore, Easter offers spring concerts in the grand Seglora church, animal keepers who talk about chickens, eggs, and how chicks develop in the egg, as well as the opportunity to try Ukrainian-style egg painting. For all children, there will also be Easter crafts, broomstick making, face painting, and Lill-Skansen's egg school with eggs from the entire animal kingdom.
Skansen is open from 10 am to 4 pm during Easter.
