General Synod meets for debate and decision

The General Synod is the highest decision-making body of the Church of Sweden, deciding on issues common to the entire Church of Sweden. This year’s theme, ‘The Church in the Public Space’, addresses the place of the church in society, locally and globally.

The General Synod’s second, decision-making plenary working session is taking place from 18–20 November at Uppsala Konsert & Kongress. Both the debate and the decision will be broadcast live on the Church of Sweden website.
During the course of their committee work, members considered a total of 73 motions and six communications, resulting in 60 reports with proposed decisions.
The General Synod will conclude in Uppsala Cathedral on 20 November at 2:30 pm with a service led by Bishop Teresia Derlén of Härnösand Diocese.
Accreditation
Journalists and photographers must be accredited and wear visible name tags, which can be picked up inside the meeting hall at Uppsala Konsert & Kongress. On-site press officers will assist in contacting members for comments and interviews if necessary. About the General Synod
The General Synod is the highest decision-making body of the Church of Sweden and its 251 members are elected by the members.
The General Synod makes decisions on matters concerning the Church Ordinance (the Church of Sweden’s regulatory framework) and other issues of importance to the entire Church of Sweden, such as the Book of Worship and the Hymn Book. Other examples include the church’s organisation, belonging to the Church of Sweden and the church’s ordained ministry.
However, the General Synod cannot make decisions on matters that are the responsibility of parishes or dioceses.
