Flower Activates Multiple New Battery Projects – “A New Era for Swedish Renewables”
Energy tech company Flower continues to accelerate towards the fossil-free energy transition. Adding three new battery parks with a total capacity of over 70 MW to its portfolio, the company is now optimizing over 200 MW of energy assets, making it Sweden’s biggest battery portfolio. “This marks the beginning of a new era for Swedish renewables”, says John Diklev, founder and CEO at Flower.

Flower builds on its portfolio of flexible energy assets. With the activation of three new battery parks, in Bredhälla, Kungälv and Hanhals, the energy tech company is now optimizing a total of over 200 MW of energy assets, vitally supporting the Swedish energy system and speeding up the deployment of renewable energy projects.
“Uncertainty has always been a factor with renewable energy – the sun doesn’t always shine and the wind doesn’t always blow. With these cutting-edge battery systems in place, we will not only be able to reduce imbalances in the power grid, but also reduce the electricity costs for consumers, and lead the way for an acceleration of renewable energy investments. This marks the beginning of a new era for Swedish renewables”, says John Diklev, founder and CEO of Flower.
The purchase of the Bredhälla 42,5 MW BESS project was announced by Flower earlier this year, the biggest operating battery park in Sweden at the time. It will be live next week following an inauguration ceremony on site. The Hanhals 15 MW project is an optimization contract awarded by Flower’s investor Ellevio Energy Solutions, now fully up and running. The Kungälv 15 MW project has been sourced, built and managed by Flower from the ground up, going live today.
“The battery park in Kungälv is a big milestone for Flower and we are so grateful to our local partners who have been instrumental in making this happen. It is the first of its kind where Flower has secured partnerships with local stakeholders to gain access to the full battery value chain. This is part of a larger strategy that we are now deploying to access international markets”, says Emma Hellström, Chief of Strategy at Flower.
The Kungälv project came into fruition as a result of close dialogue and collaboration with land owners, municipalities, and grid owners, making sure the site is both a fit for the local community and that it runs in harmony with sensitive infrastructure and the environment. Together with the other introduced battery units, Kungälv will be vital for supporting the grid both locally and on a national scale.
“The activation of Bredhälla, Kungälv and Hanhals are not only energizing for local communities but vital for the energy system at large. In the near future, this can open up long-term business models and contracting structures for batteries, speeding up the deployments of renewable energy projects further. We are only just getting started on this exciting journey”, says John Diklev, founder and CEO at Flower.
