Invitation to a press conference regarding serious war crimes and terrorist crimes in Syria
On Tuesday 27 May the prosecutors plan to indict a 32-year-old man for serious war crimes and terrorist crimes in Syria. The offence was allegedly committed during the period of 24 December 2014–3 February 2015. The media is invited to a press conference regarding the prosecution.
On 24 December 2014 a fighter aircraft belonging to the Royal Jordanian Air Force went down in Syria. The pilot was captured by the Islamic State (IS) the same day near Raqqa, Syria.
The 32-year-old man, a Swedish citizen, is suspected of having executed the pilot, together with other perpetrators belonging to IS. The investigation has shown that the man, armed and masked, together with others forced the pilot into a metal cage. The cage was subsequently set on fire by one of the co-perpetrators, and the pilot died as a consequence of the fire.
The man has been convicted of terrorist crimes in Belgium and France and has been temporarily handed over to Sweden to participate in the trial, which is scheduled to start on 4 June.

The press conference will take place on 27 May at 1:00 PM at Klara Konferens, Klarabergsviadukten 90, Stockholm. The entrance will be open from 12:30 PM.

The press conference will be held in Swedish. Following the press conference the prosecutors will be available for individual interviews in Swedish and English.

The press conference will not be broadcasted digitally.
The prosecutors will not be available to the media prior to the press conference. The next time the prosecutors will be available is when the District Court has passed sentence in the case.
