Schibsted completes acquisition of TV4 and MTV from Telia Company
1.7.2025 10:10:40 CEST | Schibsted | Press Release
Schibsted today announces the successful closing of the acquisition of Telia Company’s TV Media business (TVM) – TV4 in Sweden and MTV in Finland. The transaction marks a major step in building a stronger, more unified Nordic media presence that combines trusted journalism with engaging content across all platforms and formats.

With this acquisition, Schibsted welcomes two of the most iconic and influential media brands in the Nordics. By bringing together complementary strengths, Schibsted, TV4 and MTV will offer users a richer and more complete media experience that delivers news, sports, drama and entertainment to audiences across text, audio, and video.
“TV4 and MTV are trusted and independent news providers and national cornerstones for the protection of democratic values, as well as being known for their high quality entertainment, sports and drama content. In this context, Schibsted stands as an ideal long-term owner. With the backing of the Tinius Trust, Schibsted is dedicated to preserving and strengthening TV4 and MTV as reliable and independent media providers,” says Siv Juvik Tveitnes, CEO of Schibsted.
Complementary positions in Sweden
Together with Schibsted’s digital media brands — Aftonbladet, Svenska Dagbladet, Omni and Podme — TV4 holds a strong and complementary position within news, sports and entertainment across all media platforms in Sweden.
“Since Aftonbladet became part of Schibsted in 1996, we have been dedicated to Sweden, making this a truly historic day for us. As competition in the media market intensifies, building complete and nationally rooted media positions with scale and investment capacity is more important than ever to safeguard editorial independence. This acquisition marks a significant step towards forming a leading Nordic media destination with strong, independent brands,” says Siv Juvik Tveitnes.
Step-change in Finland
In Finland, the acquisition of MTV represents a step-change for Schibsted, which is already present with the podcast platform Podme.
“MTV’s strong position in the Finnish market and attractive brands fit perfectly with our ambitions to build a stronger and unified Nordic media presence, and we look forward to supporting MTV’s leading position within both news, sports, drama and entertainment into the future,” says Siv Juvik Tveitnes.
Building positions together
TV4 and MTV will remain firmly anchored in their national markets, while benefiting from increased scale, innovation capacity and cross-border collaboration. The deal brings together strong positions in live and on-demand video with Schibsted’s leading positions in digital news and audio.
Schibsted and TVM will seek opportunities to explore complementary strengths and create positions together — attractive to users and advertisers alike.
“We are thrilled to officially join the Schibsted family,” says Mathias Berg, CEO of TVM and TV4. “Our shared values around quality journalism, innovation and user experience make this a perfect match. Together, we will continue to inform, inspire and entertain the Nordic public – now with even more strength and ambition.”
Key facts and figures
The transaction, first announced in February 2025, values the TV and Media business at SEK 6.55 billion (enterprise value, cash and debt-free). In 2024, the TV4 and MTV group generated external revenues of SEK 8.16 billion and had approximately 887,000 subscribers – a double digit year-on-year growth.
