The initiative aims to create more accessible, equitable, and efficient specialized care for patients nationwide. The Swedish University Hospital Alliance includes the University Hospital of Umeå, Uppsala University Hospital, Karolinska University Hospital, Örebro University Hospital, Linköping University Hospital, Sahlgrenska University Hospital, and Skåne University Hospital.

A Quarter of Swedish Healthcare in Collaboration

The university hospitals care for over 1.6 million patients annually and account for approximately 25 percent of Swedish healthcare. Together with universities, they also conduct clinical research and educate future healthcare professionals.

United Force for Future Healthcare

"Sweden's university hospitals play a central role in healthcare, research, and education. Strengthened collaboration in a new alliance leads to improved healthcare for all citizens and enhances Sweden's international competitiveness" said Boubou Hallberg, hospital director at Sahlgrenska University Hospital and chairman of the initiative's first year.

The alliance will, among other things, develop collaboration in precision medicine, promote more clinical trials where more patients can participate, and better meet future competence needs through coordination in educational matters. By jointly representing Swedish university healthcare in international contexts, Sweden's global position is also strengthened. The Swedish University Hospital Alliance takes joint responsibility for future healthcare – for today's and tomorrow's patients.
