European game clusters gathered in Linköping to strengthen the future of the games industry
10.9.2025 08:00:00 CEST | East Sweden Game | Press Release
When leading game hubs from across the Baltic Sea region met in Linköping, the agenda focused on ecosystem development, community support, investment and new forms of collaboration for the regional games business. The conference marked the final meeting of the EU co-funded Interreg Baltic Sea Region project BSG Go!, which over three years has developed new tools, methods, strategies, and incentives to strengthen the industry’s competitiveness and growth.

Launched in 2023, the BSG Go! project brought together 10 game development hubs and three public authority organisations from across the Baltic Sea region. Its aim has been to build a stronger and more resilient European games industry by creating a robust ecosystem to support young developers and entrepreneurs – a vital prerequisite for sustainable growth and the ability to meet future challenges.
At the conference in Linköping, results from 19 pilot actions carried out within BSG Go! were carefully reviewed to ensure their long-term impact. Game development hubs, with their mission to build strong communities, have emerged as the most promising support structure for a thriving regional games sector. Key highlights include:
-
Empowerment: tools and methods to encourage senior developers – both male and female – to take on leadership and mentoring roles.
-
Upskilling: ensuring high-quality support from mentors and team leaders within game studios.
-
Motivation: making the industry more environmentally and socially sustainable.
-
Stimulation: connecting the Baltic Sea region to the European stage and learning from the success stories of other hubs.
A newly created network, The Game Dev Hubs League – “The League” – has already brought together 22 hubs, strengthening cross-border collaboration and laying the foundation for new international partnerships.
“It is unique that so many successful game clusters from across the region gathered here in Linköping. This demonstrates both the strength and potential of international collaboration. Together we can create better opportunities for the young game developers who represent the future of the industry,” says Thomas Clifford, Project Manager at East Sweden Game.
