Peter Schumacher confirmed as course designer for the World Cup Final in Gothenburg 2027: ”Great honor”
14.11.2025 16:14:10 CET | Gothenburg Horse Show | News
Gothenburg Horse Show is very happy to announce Peter Schumacher as the course designer for the 2027 Longines FEI Jumping World Cup Final™. The collaboration begins immediately, and the top German course designer will also design the courses for GHS 2026. – You always dream of building competitions at top level. To do it in Gothenburg where the World Cup once began, is a great, great honor, says Peter Schumacher.

Each year Peter Schumacher designs approximately twenty competions at the highest international level. In 2025, he also designed the European Youth Championships and the Spanish Jumping Tour in Oliva, and served as assistant course designer at CHIO Aachen.
– We are very happy to have Peter join us. He comes with excellent recommendations, and his way of designing is positive for both the horses and top sport. He was our top candidate for the job from an early stage, says show director Tomas Torgersen.
– I’m very happy that Peter is coming to Gothenburg. He’s a course designer who I truly believe will go on to do more great things. He has an exceptional feeling for designing courses in a horse-friendly way, says Henrik Ankarcrona, swedish chef déquipe.
The invitation from GHS received a clear and immediate yes from Peter Schumacher.
– Gothenburg is an incredibly beautiful show. It has so much tradition and atmosphere, and the audience and decorations are outstanding, says Peter Schumacher.
By being the course designer for Gothenburg Horse Show already in 2026, he has the opportunity to get to know the classic World Cup arena at Scandinavium.
– It’s a very special arena with great conditions for building big, flowing courses. For a course designer there’s a challenge in the fact that it’s oval and has no corners. I aim to design courses that allow the sport of show jumping to present itself at its very best, says Peter Schumacher.
He will have a meticulous plan, but his philosophy is largely about adaptability.
– I have my sketches, but I like to be in the arena and work with the details, to see the horses and riders and how they react to the colors and lines of the jumps. It’s very important to stay open to changes during the competition days, says Peter Schumacher.
Peter Schumacher considers CHIO Aachen’s Frank Rothenberg a major mentor. He has also worked with multiple Olympic course designer Santiago Varela and enjoys learning from colleagues around the world. Peter Lundström, who has designed the courses for the Gothenburg Horse Show in recent years with Fredrik Malm as assistant course designer, will be part of Peter Schumacher’s team - alongside the aforementioned Fredrik Malm.
– There are several layers to decisions like this, and it’s always exciting to welcome new course designers to Sweden who can serve as inspiration for the swedish course designers. As I said, I’m very happy about this decision, says Henrik Ankarcrona, swedish chef déquipe.
