Unbeatable Maria von Essen wins Grand Prix Freestyle with a new personal best
Maria von Essen and Invoice continue to shine at Sweden International Horse Show. With freestyle music borrowed from Cathrine Laudrup-Dufour, strong support from the home crowd, and a program where everything simply clicked, the duo claimed their second victory and set a new personal best in Grand Prix Freestyle.
–Invoice felt fantastic and he is so steady now, even with everything going on around the arena, says Maria von Essen.

Saturday's winners Maria von Essen and Invoice were just as impressive on Sunday, securing another victory in the CDI4* Stockholm Dressage Trophy Grand Prix Freestyle. The duo delivered a beautiful performance that earned them a new personal best of 82.550 percent. Maria von Essen also received a long-awaited 10 for her freestyle music.
–I’m very pleased. Invoice was really lovely and so steady now despite all the distractions in the arena. I’ve borrowed the freestyle music from my trainer, Cathrine Laudrup-Dufour, and I’m very happy for that. Riding a freestyle is difficult and hitting the music at the right moment every time is a real challenge. But today everything flowed. It wasn’t rushed nor did we fall behind, says Maria von Essen of her win.
It was an all-Swedish podium in Strawberry Arena and all three riders represented Sweden at the European Championships in Crozet earlier this year. Tinne Vilhelmson Silfvén and Hyatt secured second place after also achieving a new personal best of 79.070 percent in Grand Prix Freestyle.
–I’m really pleased; Hyatt felt more confident today and she just gets braver and braver. This journey with her is something special, says Tinne.
Sofie Lexner and Inoraline W completed the Swedish sweep with a polished program set to music by two-time Eurovision winner Loreen. Their ride earned 77.410 percent, just fractions away from a new personal best.
–Riding a freestyle in this arena is an incredible feeling, and doing it together with Nora was just magical, says Sofie.
There is no doubt that all the podium finishers have their sights set on earning a spot in the Swedish team for next year’s FEI World Championships in Aachen.
–We’ll plan carefully to prepare in the best possible way for that, says Maria von Essen.
