12 films nominated for film award

During the Gothenburg Film Festival, the Church of Sweden will present its Angelos film award for a Swedish film of high artistic quality that brings existential issues to life. The prize money is SEK 50 000, with 12 films competing for the award.

The Church of Sweden’s film award has been presented since 2002. The award will go to a Swedish feature film that premieres during the festival. The criteria include that the film must be of high artistic quality while bringing existential issues to life. It must also be possible to use it in church film work.
The winner will receive SEK 50 000 and the Angelos statuette, created by Erland Forsberg.

Ingrid Elam
Professor Emerita of Literary Composition, Dean of the Artistic Faculty at the University of Gothenburg from 2012–2018. She was previously head of culture at the broadsheets Göteborgs-Posten and Dagens Nyheter and is now active as an author and critic.
Martin Ersgård
Freelance line producer in the film and television industry since the 1970s. Long-time project manager in public service broadcaster SVT’s drama section and head of the producer programme at the Norwegian Film School.
Mikael Ringlander
Photographer, provost and director of the Church of Sweden’s programme at the Gothenburg Film Festival. Chairman of the jury.
The Church of Sweden is co-organiser of the 2026 Film Festival
In addition to the Angelos film award, the church is co-organising several events and seminars during the film festival, which runs from 23 January to 1 February.
