Musical based on the life and work of IKEA founder Ingvar Kamprad to play in Småland

After another day of falling numbers at the stock market, a group of stockbrokers stand completely perplexed. The crash is a fact and the brokers desperately search for a ray of light. Suddenly they come to think of Ingvar Kamprad and his IKEA, one of few global companies that isn’t publicly quoted. Inspired by Ingvar's success story, they begin to hope for a new era and a better, more charitable kind of capitalism.

“A touching, funny and crazy journey”

– Ingvar! tells the story of the successful businessperson who stood out in the international business community with his down-to-earth approach, firmly rooted in his home region in southern Sweden. It is also a story about Swedish culture and society, past and present. To the tune of composer Erik Gedeon's fantastic music, we get to experience a touching, funny and crazy journey that is as relevant now as it was when it first premiered in 2009, says director Annika Kofoed.

Renowned musical artist stars as Kamprad

The role of Ingvar Kamprad is played by renowned musical artist Robert Rydberg, recently featured in productions such as Rocky Horror Picture Show, the hit musical Jersey Boys and the arena show Oh What a Night in Sweden. Six other actors and two musicians join him on stage.

Plays in Småland for the first time

Ingvar! is written by Erik Gedeon and Klas Abrahamsson and premiered in Hamburg in 2009 under the title Das Wunder von Schweden, eine musikalische Möbelsaga. The musical had its acclaimed Swedish premiere in Malmö in 2010 and has since been performed at several theatres in Sweden and Finland. For the first time it will now be playing in Småland – the Swedish region where Ingvar Kamprad grew up and that has shaped his company and the legacy of IKEA. Småland has continued to be an important centre of furniture and design production in Sweden and is still home to the IKEA head office in Älmhult.

Ingvar! is a collaboration between the stagehouse Kulturhuset Spira in Jönköping and Regionteatern Blekinge Kronoberg  (The Regional Theatre of Blekinge and Kronoberg) in Växjö and Karlshamn.
