Historic record
5.2.2026 19:23:43 CET | Svenska kyrkan | Press Release
Act Church of Sweden sets a new fundraising record. The 2025 Christmas fundraising campaign raised SEK 60.8 million, the highest amount in the campaign’s history. This significant increase in the amount raised demonstrates the strength of the commitment to people living in conflict and displacement all over the world.

Parishes, dioceses and donors across Sweden raised a total of SEK 60 794 211. This is the largest Christmas fundraising total ever and a historic record.
“Through the Christmas fundraising campaign, we as a church make a contribution to a more peaceful world, both here in Sweden and in places impacted by war,” says Susanna Olivin, project manager for the campaign at Act Church of Sweden. “Together we show that there is a light shining in the darkness.”
High level of engagement across the country
Almost all dioceses saw an increase in funds raised during the 2025 campaign. Fundraising activities in parishes and groups of parishes raised SEK 13.8 million.
“With a high level of engagement and much creativity, funds were raised through Lucia concerts, Christmas markets, candlelit vigils, collections, flea markets, craft events, candle sales and many other initiatives around the country,” says Susanna Olivin.
The communal digital candle-lighting campaign also engaged a great many people, resulting in 16 300 candles being lit for peace.
Millions more on the way
The total amount raised will grow further. December’s donations will be matched through the partnership with the Akelius Foundation. These funds will be disbursed in spring 2026 and will go towards the work of Act Church of Sweden for people affected by the war in Sudan.
Fundraising needed more than ever
Almost 200 armed conflicts are currently taking place in the world, with a quarter of the world’s population living in impacted areas. Act Church of Sweden’s Christmas fundraising campaign, which runs annually from the first Sunday in Advent to Epiphany, is based on the theme “Shine a light in the darkness” and shows how the church and its partners are standing up for peace.
Act Church of Sweden works via around 250 projects in some 40 countries. The work for peace includes efforts via meeting places that prevent and resolve conflicts, and expanding people’s knowledge of their rights.
