German top rider Daniel Deusser wrote himself into the history books on Saturday by securing his 30th five-star victory at 1.55m level – a milestone achieved over 15 years at the very top of the sport. No European rider has recorded more five-star 1.55m wins since 2010. Worldwide, only Kent Farrington has more victories at this level (38).

The win was also the first by a German rider in a five-star class in Gothenburg in more than five years – the last time was in 2020, when Daniel Deusser himself won the Gothenburg Trophy with Calisto Blue. Friday’s class, Prize of Hööks, was won with Otello de Guldenbloom.

– I don’t have the fastest horse, so I was looking for options – whether I could go inside or around. I hesitated a little, but in the end I went for it and it worked out. My horse was really with me today, said Daniel Deusser, who will ride the same horse in Sunday’s World Cup class.

Strong Swedish performances behind the winner

Behind Deusser, Petronella Andersson continued her impressive run in the class. Her Gothenburg record speaks for itself, with victories in both 2024 and 2025. This year, she had to settle for second place.

– Winning is always fantastic, but today the course wasn’t optimal for my horse and I didn’t want to take too many risks. In previous years I’ve won this class but haven’t been as successful in the World Cup. This year I changed my strategy and wanted to give her a good round now, as she can get quite hot, said Petronella Andersson.
– I didn’t expect to win today – especially not after seeing Daniel’s round. My horse is naturally very quick, so I was aiming for a top-ten finish.

Third place went to Malin Baryard-Johnsson, who secured her fourth podium finish in a 1.50m+ class in Gothenburg since 2010. She previously recorded two second places (both in 2017) and two third places (2010 and 2026).

– I’m very happy. It’s a great feeling to deliver a clear round in front of the Swedish crowd – they are absolutely amazing. Indiana felt great today. When I saw Daniel go so fast and so well, I thought I might have to let go of the win this time, but the round felt really good, said Malin Baryard-Johnsson.

With Malin Baryard-Johnsson and Indiana continuing in top form, Swedish hopes are high ahead of the remaining highlight of the week – her first major victory in Gothenburg in more than 15 years could well be within reach.
