Mia’s Turn to Win!
21.2.2026 19:20:40 CET | Gothenburg Horse Show | Press Release
She has finished runner-up two years in a row. This year, it was Mia von Essen’s turn to claim victory in the FEI Grand Prix Freestyle, riding the magnificent Invoice. The pair were rewarded with a score of 82.645 percent.

In 2024, she made a strong statement in Gothenburg together with Invoice when the well-matched duo won the qualifier and finished second in the World Cup freestyle. In 2025, she again placed second in both the qualifier and the freestyle.
Mia finished third in Friday’s qualifier, but in the freestyle the long-awaited victory finally came.
– My horse was simply magical. He was truly with me, even though I felt he became a little tense in front of the enormous crowd, said Mia.
Just like last year, Mia rode to music from Les Misérables, a freestyle she has borrowed from Danish rider Catrine Dufour.
– It gives me goosebumps every time. I really love the music, and I found it hard to hold back the tears after the test, said Mia.
Second place in the class went to Patrik Kittel with Touchdown.
– It was fantastic to enter the arena. I received a small round of applause already when I walked in, and that made him a bit hot – but I love the crowd. I think we saw dressage at the very highest level today. It was wonderful to compete in a sold-out arena.
Friday’s winner Carina Cassoe Krüth finished third in the freestyle with Heiline’s Danciera.
– I made a few mistakes, and then you don’t win, Mia concluded.
Two qualifiers remain before the World Cup Final in Texas. Patrik has enough points but has not yet decided whether he will make the long journey. Next year, however, the final will be held in Gothenburg, and all riders on the podium said they would love to compete in front of the audience at Scandinavium.
– To ride a World Cup Final on home soil would be fantastic, said Mia von Essen.
Show Director Tomas Torgersen was pleased with this year’s World Cup dressage.
– It was truly an exciting competition, and fantastic to see the blue-and-yellow flag at the top of the results list, said Torgersen.
