From psychological thrillers to emotional family drama: New8 unveils Slate 3 at Series Mania
25.3.2026 16:47:23 CET | news aktuell GmbH | Press Release
New8, the European drama collaboration of eight public service broadcasters, presented eight new scripted projects today during Series Mania in Lille.

Following the announcement earlier this year that the partners are extending their successful co‑production model, the new slate marks three years of close collaboration between SVT (Sweden), DR (Denmark), YLE (Finland), RÚV (Iceland), NRK (Norway), VRT (Flanders/Belgium), NPO (the Netherlands) and ZDF (Germany). The unveiling highlights the strength of the collaboration and its continued commitment to sustainably co‑producing high‑quality drama rooted in shared public service values. That ambition is reflected in the breadth and diversity of the titles presented, all of which aim to nurture creative excellence while offering producers and creatives a stable and reliable financing framework.

More Autocracies Worldwide - But Democratic Resistance Is Growing26.3.2026 08:00:00 CET | Press Release
Democracy is on the defensive. This is shown by the Bertelsmann Stiftung's Transformation Index 2026 (BTI). The BTI was first surveyed twenty years ago, when democracies were still in the majority. Today, 56 percent of the 137 countries surveyed by the BTI are ruled autocratically. However, this rarely leads to better governance. Autocracies are more susceptible to corruption, less capable of shaping the future, and less consensus-oriented. However, examples such as Poland and Brazil show that social resistance and political competition can pave the way back to democracy.

On 11 March 2026, the Slovak news outlet Denník N published an article concerning the alleged efforts of the Slovak government to secure the removal of two Russian nationals from the EU sanctions list. The article contained an extensive passage concerning our client, Mr Alisher Burkhanovich Usmanov. By letter dated 12 March 2026, Denník N was requested, in order to avoid court proceedings, to provide a cease-and-desist undertaking backed by a contractual penalty. “The article was published on the eve of the European Commission’s decision on the extension of the sanctions. It reads as if its authors had taken particular care to assemble, in a single piece, every factual allegation that courts have previously found to be unlawful,” said Mr Usmanov’s lawyer, Joachim Nikolaus Steinhöfel. The article contained a dozen such statements about Alisher Usmanov, even though these very allegations have for years been prohibited, retracted, deleted or corrected in one case after another.
