New model for indie developers launched in Linköping – Nightjar Collective aims to fund the future of gaming
27.4.2026 08:00:00 CEST | East Sweden Game | Press Release
A new type of publisher in the gaming industry has been launched at East Sweden Game in Linköping. Nightjar Collective is a non-profit, member-owned cooperative that aims to create better conditions for independent game developers – through community, shared risk, and joint ownership.

Unlike traditional publishers and investors, Nightjar is built on democratic principles where members make decisions together and shape the activities. The focus is on supporting smaller teams in early stages, without taking control of their ideas or intellectual property.
"We want to create new opportunities for more people to make games, without having to adapt to a traditional funding model. This is about building something together, where success can be reinvested in the next generation of creators," say the initiators behind Nightjar.
The model is based on supporting several smaller projects in parallel, where the risk is shared among the members. When a project succeeds, a part of the revenue is returned to the collective, enabling continued funding of new game projects.
Nightjar Collective is in an early phase and is currently run on a non-profit basis, with the ambition to grow organically through community, collaborations, and future financing.
One of the first projects within Nightjar is Newman – an innovative multiplayer game where players collaborate by controlling robots in a shared world. By exchanging and developing different parts, players can customize their abilities, solve problems together, and explore the environment in new ways. The game is an example of the type of creative and innovative projects that Nightjar aims to enable.
To find and develop new game ideas, Nightjar organizes a series of open idea workshops at East Sweden Game, where participants have the opportunity to explore and further develop their projects with others.
