Energy tech company Flower is expanding its offering to generate revenue for Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) such as home batteries, heat pumps, and EV charging infrastructure. Through cloud-based optimization towards the energy market – now being introduced in Swedish battery manufacturer Polarium’s home batteries – homeowners can now increase revenues without needing to invest in additional hardware.

Flower, a Nordic leader in algorithmic energy trading, has built a platform to control and optimize energy assets. By providing broad access to energy markets, the company maximizes value for the grid while generating revenue for energy asset owners. Flower has long been a key player in optimizing and trading large-scale battery systems (BESS) and is now expanding its offering to include distributed energy resources (DERs).

The first step is a collaboration with Swedish battery manufacturer Polarium, where Flower’s optimization is integrated directly towards the company’s home batteries via API. Unlike many other solutions, this requires no additional hardware – something that has long been standard in the industry.

“With Flower’s optimization, homeowners with a Polarium HomeBattery can now easily maximize revenues and contribute to a more stable energy system – without technical barriers or additional investments,” says Pontus Winberg, Executive Vice President at Polarium.

The initiative comes at a time when demand for flexibility is rapidly increasing alongside a more volatile energy system. At the same time, profitability has often depended on advanced control and access to energy markets – an area where Flower is driving development.

“DERs are playing an increasingly important role in the energy system, where individual units act as micro power plants supporting the grid when and where needed. This segment is a key part of the transition toward a more stable and cost-efficient energy system,” says John Diklev, CEO of Flower.

The next step for Flower is to connect more units to its optimization platform, with EV charging infrastructure, heat pumps, and C&I batteries next in line. To date, the company has partnered with Flexecharge, an energy management platform for EV charging infrastructure, the smart home applications Markedroid and Emulate, and electricity retailer Rebel. The goal is to build a value-creating ecosystem that increases profitability and efficiency for DERs.

Flower Enters 180 GWh PPA with Locus Energy to Supply Stable Clean Power to Businesses2.4.2025 08:00:00 CEST | Press Release

Flower has signed a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with SEB Nordic Energy’s portfolio company Locus Energy, acquiring 180 GWh per year of wind power from 11 of the asset management company’s onshore wind farms. The newly acquired wind power will further support Flower’s efforts to balance supply and demand in the energy system while serving as a springboard for the launch of Flower’s own unique PPA solution. “This is the first step to build a truly scalable financing solution for wind power,” says John Diklev, founder and CEO of Flower.
