6.5.2026 13:00:00 CEST | Skansen open-air museum | Pressinbjudan
If you’re visiting Sweden in June, Midsummer is a celebration not to miss. At Skansen in Stockholm, the world’s oldest open-air museum, visitors can experience one of Sweden’s most well-known traditions. From 19 to 21 June, the site comes to life with music, dance and festivities.

Sweden’s largest Midsummer celebration takes place at Skansen, where over 45 000 visitors gather each year. Located on the island of Djurgården in central Stockholm, Skansen provides a unique setting for a traditional Midsummer celebration.
During the day, visitors are invited to join folk dancers and musicians in traditional ring dances around the flower-decorated maypole and experience Swedish cultural heritage up close. The programme also includes concerts, flower wreath making and storytelling inspired by Swedish folklore. A Midsummer market with crafts and seasonal food adds to the festive atmosphere.
As the evening unfolds, the celebration carries on with live music and dancing.
– Midsummer at Skansen is one of the standout moments of the Swedish summer, a vibrant celebration of music, tradition and the long, bright Swedish summer evening. Not to be missed, says Liza Carlefred, Head of Programmes and Exhibitions.
Midsummer has been celebrated at Skansen since the 1890s, and today it is one of Sweden’s most popular and well-attended traditional celebrations.
