To the Company’s knowledge, no other lithium metal battery in development has achieved such results under equivalent testing conditions.
The performance of the Company’s battery, achieved with negligible capacity fade, far exceeds today’s commercial lithium-ion battery cycling requirements across numerous applications, where performance typically ranges from 250 to 2,000 cycles, depending on the application. These results were achieved at 100% depth of discharge, and charge rates of 1C: 1C.1
“The results of Pure Lithium’s cycling performance are disruptive. Cycle life is the single largest determinant of the levelized cost of energy storage (LCOS). Pure Lithium's cycle life has the potential to reduce LCOS by 75%,” said Pure Lithium’s Founder, Chairman and CEO, Emilie Bodoin. “Pure Lithium’s cycling performance enables a broad range of applications that are out of reach of competitor lithium metal battery companies, including grid-scale energy storage, data centers and electric vehicles. Our achievement of more than 9,315 cycles tells us the lithium metal battery is finally ready to serve these markets."
Lithium metal batteries have long been considered the “holy grail” of energy storage. Lithium is the lightest metal on the periodic table and the most energy dense anode material, with ten times the energy density of the graphite anode used in today’s lithium-ion battery. Replacing the graphite anode with lithium metal can double the energy density and significantly reduce weight and cost. Cycle life has been the largest obstacle to the commercialization of the lithium metal battery and Pure Lithium has overcome it.
On January 6, 2025, the last time Pure Lithium issued a press release on its battery’s performance, the Company achieved over 2,200 cycles at a rate of 1C: 1C at 100% depth of discharge, while retaining upwards of 80% capacity - unprecedented results at the time. That battery utilized an anode developed with the goal of achieving 1,000 cycles.
Ms. Bodoin added, “Pure Lithium never stops innovating, and now with our Advanced Anode™ technology, we have gone beyond what we ever sought to achieve, unlocking markets beyond the niche high-energy applications traditionally associated with lithium metal batteries.”
"We took a first principles approach to commercializing the lithium metal battery. Rather than focusing on one component, we started by reinventing the entire lithium metal battery making process, rebuilding the anode, the electrolyte, the cell architecture and the materials supply chain. This bold approach of reducing cost and improving performance is what is needed to make this battery a commercial reality."
About Pure Lithium Corporation
Pure Lithium is a next-generation lithium metal battery company. Its patented, vertically integrated technology unifies lithium metal extraction, anode production, and battery manufacturing. Its lithium metal battery is a step change improvement in performance over the conventional lithium-ion battery. Free of graphite, cobalt, nickel, and manganese, Pure Lithium’s battery is designed to enable a supply chain independent of Chinese dominance. 1 The larger fluctuations in the early part of the cycles were due to the lack of temperature control and multiple power failures in Pure Lithium’s 1.0 Boston laboratory. The Company’s new laboratory in Chicago is fit for purpose.
