Swedish playwright and director Freja Hallberg, premieres her new play at The Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm, Sweden. In The Birds, a group of people gather for dinner party at Filomena’s home. During the evening, the outside world gradually begins to disappear, leaving them together inside the house. As their circumstances change step by step, the group is forced to find new ways of living together – and the boundaries begin to shift. The Birds has its world premiere 22 October, and all performances are surtitled in English.

“I’m not interested in major, decisive turning points. I’m more fascinated by gradual shifts – by how people adapt, step by step, often without really noticing when they cross a line,” says Freja Hallberg, who has both written and directed the production.

Freja Hallberg is a playwright and director who has created more than 50 works for the stage. Her work has been presented both in Sweden and internationally. Her productions include the critically acclaimed Art & Money, currently part of the repertoire in Belgrade in a Serbian-language production and Rathaus, which had its world premiere in German at Konträr in Stockholm in May 2026. Hallberg is also the founder and one of the artistic directors of Konträr, a performing arts venue in Stockholm.

In collaboration with the Swiss director Milo Rau and Servane Dècle —among others—Freja Hallberg also organized a highly acclaimed performance in conjunction with the annual Nobel Banquet. Other Nobel Prize Dinner followed the rituals of the Nobel Banquet, including speeches and a six-course menu, but was transformed into a performance piece in which all the speeches were based on the testimonies that exposed the "Arnault scandal"—an affair that led to the cancellation of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2018.

Cast: Nikola Borggård Gavanozov, Thérèse Brunnander, Maia Hansson Bergqvist, Melinda Kinnaman, Andreas Rothlin Svensson, Alexander de Sousa and Kristina Törnqvist.

Stora scenens tiljor blir unika möbler16.9.2026 08:53:21 CEST | Pressmeddelande
