Merck Collaborates with NVIDIA, Microsoft and Dawn Health to Develop Novel Support Model for People Living with Rare Tumors
21.10.2026 14:35:00 CEST | Business Wire | Press Release
Merck, a leading science and technology company, today announced a collaboration with NVIDIA Corporation (Santa Clara, California, USA), Microsoft Corporation (Redmond, Washington, USA) and Dawn Health A/S (Copenhagen, Denmark) to build an innovative model for Patient Support Programs (PSPs). The four-way collaboration brings together pharmaceutical and clinical expertise, enterprise technology, AI services and digital health product design, with the shared goal of making specialist-level support more individualized, responsive and continuously available to patients, no matter how complex their treatment journey is.
“Across their treatment journeys, patients with rare tumors often describe challenges that extend well beyond clinical care, like navigating multiple specialists, complex regimens and repeatedly reconstructing their treatment story for each new stakeholder. Our integrated support ecosystem starts with the need. The goal is to truly transform how healthcare is experienced, not add another tool on top of it,” said Miguel Fernández Alcalde, Head of Global Commercial Strategy for Healthcare business sector of Merck. “This solution is designed to make more continuous and personalized support available across small and geographically dispersed rare tumor populations, including patients who may have limited access to specialist care.”
Merck is collaborating on the design of a pioneering integrated support ecosystem tailored to individual needs of people living with rare tumors, their disease state and circumstances. In practice, the outcome is a AI-facilitated companion, available to patients 24/7. Every interaction is grounded in clinically reviewed content, with defined escalation pathways, and full traceability and audit capabilities. Designed to complement, not replace, the care patients receive from their healthcare team, the companion extends the reach and responsiveness of support, while a nurse or healthcare provider remains available when needed. The collaboration builds on and expands a previously announced partnership between Merck and Dawn Health to support rare tumor patients.
Once technical feasibility is confirmed and regulatory requirements are met, the new model will be piloted in key markets in Europe with an initial focus on rare tumors, specifically desmoid tumors and neurofibromatosis type 1 with plexiform neurofibromas (NF1-PN). These disease areas are known to have complex treatment pathways, and high unmet needs of patients, which makes the case for more consistent, higher-quality support particularly urgent.
The multi-way collaboration is grounded on a shared belief that bringing digital interactions, human services and structured data closer together could, over time, help build a more complete view of how a patient's needs evolve throughout their journey.
Three other relevant players in the technology space have key roles in developing this novel patient solution. NVIDIA contributes AI technology & services including NVIDIA Nemotron, NVIDIA Nemotron Reranking open model, NVIDIA NeMo Guardrails, NeMo Relay, NeMo Gym, NeMo Evaluator, NeMo Data Designer to help power the program's performance and safety capabilities; Microsoft provides cloud services (Microsoft Foundry, Azure AI Search, the AI Red Teaming Agent as well as Azure Kubernetes Service, Azure SQL and Azure Monitor to run the Dawn Platform); and Dawn Health leads product development, regulatory experience, and the design of patient-facing applications based on the Dawn Platform offering.
Traditional PSPs have long been a cornerstone of the support pharmaceutical companies offer patients, providing structured, validated guidance throughout the treatment journey. As treatment and care pathways grow more complex, patient demand for support is rising, while the reach of these programs often cannot keep pace. Patients in small or dispersed populations, such as those with rare tumors, continue to have limited access to specialist care.
About Merck's Integrated Health and Medicines
Merck's Integrated Health and Medicines (IHM) brings together medicines, data, devices and human support to better understand patient needs, identify gaps in care, enable better-informed clinical decisions and deliver personalized interventions throughout the patient journey. A medicine marks the start of a patient's support, not the end of it.
Working across Rare Tumors, Specialty, Fertility & Endocrinology, and Cardio-Metabolic care, IHM builds integrated ecosystems, connected devices and decision support tools through its High Touch, High Tech approach: technology helps continuously understand patient needs, anticipate when and where support is required and enable personalized interventions, while healthcare professionals provide the human connection and clinical expertise where they add the greatest value.
Every solution is created with insights from patients, clinicians, and partners who will use it. In the U.S., for example, the company recently launched TGCT & Me, a free app built with insights from patients, healthcare professionals, and a patient advocacy group to help people navigate life with tenosynovial giant cell tumor (TGCT).

Octane AI Launches Phoenix, an AI Quiz Builder That Builds, Checks and Improves Quizzes for Shopify Brands21.10.2026 19:15:00 CEST | Press Release
Octane AI, the quiz and zero-party data platform for Shopify brands, launched Phoenix in October, its biggest release to date. Merchants describe the quiz they want or upload what they already have, and Phoenix builds it, checks it, personalizes the results and keeps improving it with experiments. One beta customer turned a single document into a complete product-launch quiz: “I attached it to Phoenix, and it built the whole thing, all the pages. It understood everything, not just the text but the logic behind it.” Across all live Octane AI quizzes, 15% of shoppers who finish a quiz place an order. Yet building one has meant hours of writing rules by hand, custom code for design and clicking through every path to find broken results. Phoenix handles those hard parts, from building a quiz to improving it after launch. “Since day one, we've kept track of every piece of feedback from our merchants: what frustrates them and what they wish Octane AI could do. Phoenix is the result, and it k

Future Health and Bridge for Billions to Launch Programme Strengthening Health Entrepreneurship in Emerging Markets21.10.2026 17:50:00 CEST | Press Release
Future Health – A Global Initiative by Abu Dhabi and Bridge for Billions will launch a new entrepreneurship programme designed to strengthen promising health ventures in emerging markets and help locally-developed solutions reach more people. This press release features multimedia. View the full release here: https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20261021719421/en/ The first phase of the programme will target around 50 entrepreneurs leading late-incubation to early-acceleration ventures in Africa and Asia. Emerging markets are home to significant health needs and entrepreneurial potential, yet many promising ventures can struggle to access the capital, specialist guidance, and health-system connections required to grow. WIPO’s Global Innovation Index 2024 reported that Latin America and Africa together accounted for around 3% of global venture-capital deals in the first half of 2024, while venture-capital values fell by 19% in Asia-Pacific and 80% in Africa. Hephaestus Exits Stealth Having Raised $17.2M to Supply Rare-Earth-Free HTS Superconductors and Build Low-Cost Fusion Power21.10.2026 16:48:00 CEST | Press Release
Hephaestus today emerged from stealth with solutions that address two of the largest cost drivers in fusion power: the high temperature superconducting (HTS) magnets that confine the plasma, and the edge-localized modes (ELMs – major plasma instabilities) that drive up the cost and complexity of conventional reactor designs. The company also announced the close of a new funding round led by CiRi Ventures. Hephaestus was founded in London in 2019 with a single mission – to help make fusion energy cheap enough to compete on the grid. Its AI plasma solver initially swept the full space of tokamak design parameters, unconstrained by the legacy designs and materials much of the industry is already committed to, and identified negative triangularity (NT), which inverts the D-shaped plasma used in most tokamaks, as the most likely configuration for low-cost fusion energy. Subsequent results from facilities worldwide, including the DIII-D, JET, and SMART, have shown that NT can deliver strong
