Jori Klomp appointed Chorus Master at the Royal Swedish Opera

Jori Klomp has been appointed Chorus Master at the Royal Swedish Opera. With experience from Theater Aachen, La Monnaie and Opera & Ballet Vlaanderen, he leads the musical preparation and development of the Royal Swedish Opera Chorus and its 48 singers.

“What I enjoy most is helping each singer develop their individual strengths and personal expression, and bringing those qualities together to create the best possible choral sound,” says Jori Klomp.

With roots in the Netherlands and Belgium and a background as a singer and saxophonist, Klomp previously spent seven years as Chorus Master and Kapellmeister at Theater Aachen. He has also worked as a guest Chorus Master at La Monnaie, Opera & Ballet Vlaanderen and Opera Zuid. He holds a master’s degree in choral conducting.

In February, the Royal Swedish Opera Chorus will perform in Beethoven’s *Fidelio* with the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra. Jori Klomp is part of the artistic team as Chorus Master.

“The challenge in Fidelio is to combine classical transparency with dramatic fortes. The chorus may not have extensive passages, but its music demands great contrasts in both dynamics and emotion. I look forward to exploring those contrasts with the singers,” says Jori Klomp.
