Film i Väst - Your Scandinavian Partner in Co-Productions

Film Väst is the most successful regional film fund in Scandinavia. Film Väst seeks projects that can compete in the most prestigious film festivals and/or be seen by a large international audience. Film Väst accepts applications for feature film co-productions throughout the year. All co-productions are required to bring elements of production or post-production to Region Västra Götaland, work with a Swedish production partner, and hire crew and workers from the region.

During the film festival in Venice Film i Väst Analysis introduces av unique, pan-European study, All that is solid melts into air – Public Film Funding at a Crossroads II. It is presented at a seminar as a part of Venice Production Bridge by Tomas Eskilsson, head of Film i Väst Analysis. Public Film and Audiovisual Policies and Funding at a Crossroads is a research project in three parts that explores and discuss the future purpose and relevance of film and audiovisual funding. Last year’s much talked about and debated report Public Film Funding at a Crossroads is now followed up with All that is solid melts into air – Public Film Funding at a Crossroads II.

Film i Väst will co-produce the internationally acclaimed director Lukas Moodysson's and Memfis Film's new feature film Together 99. The first feature film Together became a huge success with audiences and critics in Sweden as well as the rest of the world. The new film takes place in 1999, 24 years after the first film. Principal photography for Together 99 will take place in the western part of Sweden in August-September.

Thomas Vinterberg’s Another Round has won no less than four awards at this year’s EFA: Best European Film, Best European Director (Thomas Vinterberg), Best European Actor (Mads Mikkelsen), Best European Screenwriter (Thomas Vinterberg & Tobias Lindholm). Another Round is produces by Zentropa Entertainments3 in co-production with Zentropa Sweden, Lizette Joncic, and Film i Väst. The film was shot in Region Västra Götaland, Sweden.

Today the international cast of Ruben Östlund’s new film Triangle of Sadness has been announced. The international ensemble is led by rising stars Harris Dickinson and Charlbi Dean together with three-time Oscar nominated Woody Harrelson. The film is an epic satire set against the world of fashion and the uber-rich. Production will start on February 19 in Gotheburg and Trollhättan in Sweden followed by shootings on a yacht on the Adriatic Sea and in Greece. The film is expected to premiere in 2021 and SF Studios will handle Nordic distribution. The film is produced by Erik Hemmendorff, Plattform Produktion and Philippe Bober, Coproduction Office, in co-production with Film i Väst among others.

The Icelandic scriptwriter and director Hlynur Pálmason’s A White, White Day is one of seven feature films that have been selected for competition in the International Critics’ Week, one of the parallel sections of the Cannes Film Festival. This will be the film’s world premiere. The film is co-produced with Film i Väst, and part och the postproduction is made in Västra Götaland by CloudBerry Post and Can Film.
