- Film i Väst congratulates Another Round, Thomas Vinterberg and Zentropa for winning the Oscar for Best International Feature Film. Another Round tells a touching story by extraordinary talented actors. We are so proud and happy to be co-producers of this film, which in part was shot in our region of West Sweden, Västra Götaland, says Kristina Börjeson, Head of Production at Film i Väst.

In 2021 Film i Väst has, for the first time, three Oscar nominations in the same year; two for Best International Feature Film – Thomas Vinterberg’s Another Round and Kaouther Ben Hania’s The Man Who Sold His Skin – and Thomas Vinterberg himself as Best Director

- Dear Thomas Vinterberg, all actors, producers Sisse Graum JørgensenKasper Dissing and Lizette Jonjic  at Zentropa and the whole film team: you are fantastic! You have made a feature film that has captured the attention and interest of film lovers around the globe, says Kristina Börjeson.

Another Round and The Man Who Sold His Skin are both co-produced with Film i Väst. Another Round is the fourth co-production with Thomas Vinterberg. The Hunt was also nominated Best Foreign Language Film in 2013. Kaouther Ben Hania’s previous feature film The Beauty and the Beasts was Tunisia’s Oscar entry in 2019 and it was also co-produced with Film i Väst.

Since 2000 Film i Väst co-productions have been nominated for 15 Oscars, with one win: Susanne Bier’s In a Better World 2011. Nine of the nominations have been in the international film category, among them Ruben Östlund’s The Square, Hannes Holm’s A Man Called Ove and Nikolaj Arcel’s A Royal Affair.

Oscar nominee and Cannes winner Kirsten Dunst together with Daniel Brühl, double winner of Palme d’Or Ruben Östlund, Palme d’Or nominated Magnus von Horn and distinguished actress Trine Dyrholm, were among the guests when Film i Väst held it’s traditional press conference in Cannes in front of an upload of journalists. Nine new co-productions were introduced together with the five co-productions competing in Cannes.

During the film festival in Venice Film i Väst Analysis introduces av unique, pan-European study, All that is solid melts into air – Public Film Funding at a Crossroads II. It is presented at a seminar as a part of Venice Production Bridge by Tomas Eskilsson, head of Film i Väst Analysis. Public Film and Audiovisual Policies and Funding at a Crossroads is a research project in three parts that explores and discuss the future purpose and relevance of film and audiovisual funding. Last year’s much talked about and debated report Public Film Funding at a Crossroads is now followed up with All that is solid melts into air – Public Film Funding at a Crossroads II.
