Euroepan Film Awards have become very important on an European film level and a clear signal up to upcoming Oscar nominations. For us at Film i Väst its a clear signal of how our co-productions can be measured on an European scales. Film Väst is the most successful regional film fund in Scandinavia. Film Väst seeks projects that can compete in the most prestigious film festivals and/or be seen by a large international audience. Film Väst accepts applications for feature film co-productions throughout the year. All co-productions are required to bring elements of production or post-production to Region Västra Götaland, work with a Swedish production partner, and hire crew and workers from the region.

Swedish director Göran Hugo Olsson have gotten unique access to a treasure and the 4th of October his new feature documentary Israel Palestine on Swedish TV 1958-1989 will premiere in Swedish cinemas.

During the film festival in Venice Film i Väst Analysis introduces av unique, pan-European study, All that is solid melts into air – Public Film Funding at a Crossroads II. It is presented at a seminar as a part of Venice Production Bridge by Tomas Eskilsson, head of Film i Väst Analysis. Public Film and Audiovisual Policies and Funding at a Crossroads is a research project in three parts that explores and discuss the future purpose and relevance of film and audiovisual funding. Last year’s much talked about and debated report Public Film Funding at a Crossroads is now followed up with All that is solid melts into air – Public Film Funding at a Crossroads II.

The Turkish director and scriptwriter Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s About Dry Grasses has been selected for competition at Festival de Cannes. The film is co-produced by Film i Väst and Nadir Öperli and Beata Gårdeler at Second Land. Parts of the post production have been made in Västra Götaland. Furthermore Felipe Gálves’ The Settlershas been selected for Un Certain Regard.
