Press invitation: A Competitive EU Industry for a Successful Green Transition

Dela
Employer representatives from 27 countries are in Luleå to discuss the conditions for the green transition, sustainable growth and the EU's new competitiveness agenda on 19–20 June. Press briefing on 19 June at 10.30 Savoy Hotel, Storgatan 59 Luleå. Arranged by EESC European Economic and Social Committee, Byggföretagen and Industriarbetsgivarna.

The success of the historical transitions we are facing will ultimately depend on how well businesses and the economy as a whole will operate in the changing ecosystems. Only by being a world leader in innovation and sustainability can Europe successfully compete globally and create the necessary prosperity.

Therefore, the goal of the extraordinary Employers' Group meeting in Luleå in Sweden is to see how energy intensive industries and the construction sector are part of the green transition.

Sweden's presidency of the EU is coming to an end. During its presidency, Sweden has succeeded in putting the competitiveness of the EU at the top of the political agenda. A new long-term competitiveness agenda has been launched, as well as a number of individual proposals with the aim of improving the EU's economy to face accelerating global challenges. This is positive.

We must now ensure that this focus is not lost, because the lack of competitiveness in Europe is real. Europe's share of the global economy has been declining for a long time. In 1990, the EU accounted for around 25 percent of the world's GDP. The corresponding figure for 2020 was 15 percent and in 2050 it is predicted to be less than 10 percent.

There is an urgent need to regain ground. The green transition gives us a tangible opportunity. However, how successful it will ultimately be, depends on how well our economy as a whole will change the way it operates both at home and in the world.

EESC European Economic and Social Committee, Byggföretagen and Industriarbetsgivarna, are pleased to welcome you to a press briefing on the 19 June at Savoy Hotel at 10.30, Storgatan 59 Luleå for interviews with Stefano Mallia, President of the EESC Employers' Group, Per Hidesten, CEO, The Swedish Association of Industrial Employers and Mats Åkerlind CEO, The Swedish Construction Federation.

On 20 June 8.30-11.45 the seminar A Competitive EU industry for a successful green transition will take place at Vetenskapens Hus, Storgatan 53, Luleå. https://www.eesc.europa.eu/en/agenda/our-events/events/competitive-eu-industry-successful-green-transition
