Kentaro Mitsumori recieves the Mariane Orlando scholarship of 2023

The Mariane Orlando scholarship is given once a year to one exceptional dancer. Kentaro Mitsomuri, from Japan, has been employed by the Royal Swedish Ballet since 2017. In 2022, he was appointed Principal dancer.

The jury's motivation for the scholarship:

"Kentaro Mitsumori is a unique artist who has given noteworthy performances in a number of roles and proven himself in a wide range of styles. His technique is exciting yet unforced, marked by brilliant pirouettes, an effortless jump and inherent musicality. These distinctive qualities have enhanced roles such as the Bluebird in The Sleeping Beauty; Prince Siegfried in Swan Lake; Basilio in Don Quixote; the Prince in Cinderella; the male Principal in Theme and Variations and Des Grieux in Manon.

He has performed in works by William Forsythe, Alexander Ekman, Serge Lifar and Ohad Naharin, to name but a few. Kentaro approaches each production with curiosity and commitment. With an eagerness to learn and an exemplary work ethic, he has continued to grow and develop with each new challenge. For these reasons the board for the scholarship fund has unanimously decided to award the Mariane Orlando Scholarship for 2023, with a sum of SEK 20 000, to Kentaro Mitsumori."
