Celebrate Spring the Swedish Way – Walpurgis Night at Skansen
On April 30th, Stockholm's iconic open-air museum Skansen invites international guests to partake in the cherished Swedish celebration of Walpurgis Night. Hosted at Skansen since 1892, the event offers an immersive evening of tradition, music and cultural heritage in a setting that bridges past and present – crowned by panoramic views of the Swedish capital.

Experience the Timeless Tradition of Walpurgis Night at Skansen
Each spring, Walpurgis Night (Valborgsmässoafton) brings Swedes together to mark the shift from winter to spring with bonfires, music and community. Skansen has upheld this tradition since 1892, offering an authentic experience that embodies centuries-old traditions and the pulse of contemporary Swedish culture.
One of the most iconic moments of the evening is the lighting of the traditional Walpurgis bonfire, set against a breathtaking backdrop overlooking the rooftops and waterways of Stockholm.
An Evening of Tradition and Music
The festivities commence at 20.30 on the Solliden Stage, featuring a lineup of esteemed performers:
-
Musicians Uje Brandelius and Marit Bergman: Returning by popular demand to perform "Brinn, Brasa, Brinn," a song specially composed for Skansen's Walpurgis celebrations.
-
Carin Götblad: The esteemed police commissioner will deliver this year's spring speech, a highlight of the evening.
-
Stockholms Studentsångare: Since their founding in 1905, this renowned male choir has been an integral part of Skansen's Walpurgis celebrations, serenading the audience with traditional spring songs.
-
Sara Parkman and Hampus Norén: Concluding the evening, the acclaimed folk musician Sara Parkman, fresh from a sold-out tour, will perform an exclusive concert alongside composer Hampus Norén.
University students are granted free admission upon presentation of a valid student ID at the main entrance. Other guests are welcome with an annual pass or regular entrance ticket, which can be purchased online to ensure swift access.
