Green Cargo receives continued trust from St1 in a new five-year agreement plus two option years. The agreement currently covers exchange contracts and transports between Gothenburg Pölsebo and Karlstad and Jönköping respectively.

St1 and Green Cargo can look back on a long collaboration, which started in 1996, i.e. almost 27 years. Since its inception, Green Cargo has transported more than 11,500,000 tonnes of fuel (gasoline/diesel) in roughly 15,000 trains, from Skarvikshamnen to the depots in Karlstad and Jönköping.

– We at St1 work every day towards our vision of being the leading producer and seller of CO₂-aware energy with the goal of developing and offering new, renewable fuels and modern solutions that reduce climate impact. Through our collaboration with Green Cargo, we manage to jointly transport fuel via railways as a complement to, for example, sea and road transport. In addition, we have had a successful partnership with Green Cargo for several years, which is an important part of the basis for the decision to renew the agreement, says Jonas Rylander, head of projects and technology at St1 Logistics.

The agreement is for five years, plus two option years and applies between 2023–2027. It includes:

  • Transport, including unloading of trains between Gothenburg Pölsebo and Karlstad
  • Transport between Gothenburg Pölsebo – Jönköping
  • Exchange contract in Pölsebo, Gothenburg

– St1 is a fuel company that is always at the forefront of sustainable logistics and is the only fuel company in Sweden that uses rail as a base in their logistics system. The freight transport by rail in the new agreement replaces the need for approximately 20,250 truck transports per year, i.e. approximately 55 road transports daily. We hope that more actors in the fuel industry want to follow suit, says Björn Nordh, strategic account manager at Green Cargo.

St1 Nordic Oy’s vision is to be the leading producer and seller of CO₂-aware energy. The Group works with research and development aimed at developing economically viable energy solutions that reduce environmental impact. St1 focuses on the marketing of fuels, oil refining and renewable energy solutions such as sophisticated waste-based biofuels and industrial-scale wind power. The Group has 1,290 stores and filling stations under the brands St1 and Shell, in Finland, Sweden and Norway. www.st1.com
