Niki Lindroth von Bahr’s The End to compete in Cannes

Niki Lindroth von Bahr’s new stop-motion animated short film The End, co-produced with Film i Väst, will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May, where it has been selected for the Short Films Competition.

The End is set in a large airport where a plane cannot reach the control tower, the staff are too absorbed in a reality show, and a barista at an expensive smoothie bar loses their mind, while a mysterious figure moves through the periphery — soon ready to collect us all. Visually striking and darkly humorous, the film reflects on modern life’s distractions and existential fragility, told in Lindroth von Bahr’s signature handcrafted stop-motion style.
The film is produced by Malade AB in co-production with Film i Väst. Parts of the production were carried out at Dockhus Animation in Trollhättan.
The voice cast includes some of the Nordic region’s and Europe’s most prominent actors, including Noomi Rapace, Tuva Novotny, Alexander Skarsgård, Arja Saijonmaa, Denis Lavant, Kevin Rowland, Carl Johan De Geer, Marianne Lindberg De Geer, Johannes Kuhnke and Anna Mouglalis.
