Repertoire at The Royal Dramatic Theatre, Stockholm, Autumn 2026
6.5.2026 13:45:27 CEST | Dramaten | Pressmeddelande
The season opens on the Main Stage with Fake, a new play by Yael Ronen that explores what is true in a time marked by manipulation and distrust. This is followed by an innovative staging of the famous and acknowledged Swedish filmdirector Roy Andersson’s film classic En Kärlekshistoria (A Swedish Love Story), with two audience members in the leading roles. On the Small Stage, the chivalric tale Parzival—about the search for meaning in chaos—is directed by Marie Nikazm Bakken, alongside a new Swedish work, Fåglarna (The Birds), about a group of people trapped in a house, directed by Freja Hallberg. Ada Berger will direct Antikrist (Antichrist), based on Lars von Trier’s film. Also featured is Cairo-born Canadian author Omar El Akkad’s reckoning with the Western world, En dag kommer alla allltid att ha varit mot det här (One Day Everyone Will Always Have Been Against This). All this and much more will be on stage at Dramaten this autumn.

“I am convinced this will be a varied and engaging repertoire for Dramaten’ s audience this autumn. Artistic teams from both Sweden and abroad will create performances in a range of tones and styles, offering their subjective experiences of our time,” says Mattias Andersson, Artistic Director of Dramaten.
Autumn productions in chronological order:
Fake by and directed by Yael Ronen. World premiere September 5.
Can everything be manipulated today—and does truth even matter anymore? This question is central as Yael Ronen creates a new work for Dramaten. The production is developed together with the ensemble, and according to actor Lindy Larsson, the only certain thing is that Fake will not be about what we expect. Born in Jerusalem and active in Germany, Ronen had her breakthrough with the play Third Generation and is known for bold, contemporary, and humorous productions about current conflicts.
Cast: Mustafa Al-Mashhadani, Björn Elgerd, Electra Hallman, Bianca Kronlöf, Lindy Larsson, Ia Langhammer.
Parzival by Lukas Bärfuss, after Wolfram von Eschenbach. Directed by Marie Nikazm Bakken. Swedish premiere September 10.
Parzival grows up isolated in the forest with his mother, sheltered from the world and unaware of everything. When he encounters knights, his curiosity is awakened and he sets out on a journey without a moral compass. An epic, grotesque, and humorous story about the search for meaning in chaos.
Cast: Hamadi Khemiri, Elin Klinga, Hulda Lind Jóhannsdóttir, Tanja Lorentzon, Razmus Nyström, Joel Ödmann.
Antikrist (Antichrist) by Lars von Trier. Adaptation by Annika Silkeberg. Directed by Ada Berger. Premiere September 26.
Actors Sanna Sundqvist and David Book reinterpret Lars von Trier’s famous film Antichrist together with director Ada Berger. The story follows a couple trying to cope with the death of their child. When the husband, a psychologist, takes over his wife’s therapy, she is instead driven deeper into darkness, violence, and destructive sexuality.
Cast: Sanna Sundqvist and David Book.
Fåglarna (The Birds) by and directed by Freja Hallberg. World premiere October 22.
Filomena invites guests to a three-day dissertation celebration in a remote house, but only seven people show up. They do not know each other but share food and time while birds gather in large flocks outside. A newly written play about what emerges between people when they remain together.
Cast: Nikola Borggård Gavanozov, Thérèse Brunnander, Maia Hansson Bergqvist, Melinda Kinnaman, Andreas Rothlin Svensson, Alexander de Sousa, Kristina Törnqvist.

In this innovative production by Irish theatre company Dead Centre, the young couple is played by two audience members, while the rest of the roles are performed by Dramaten’s ensemble.
Cast: Erik Ehn, Rebecka Hemse, Johan Holmberg, Karin Franz Körlof, Tanja Lorentzon, among others.
En dag kommer alla alltid att ha varit mot det här (One Day, Everyone Will Always Have Been Against This) by Omar El Akkad. Adapted by Sara Stridsberg. Directed by Dritëro Kasapi. World premiere December 11.
During Israel’s war in Gaza, a writer tells stories about his parents in Egypt and his young daughter in the U.S. to endure and remember the dead. Based on Omar El Akkad’s award-winning book.
