Celebrate Sweden’s National Day at Skansen
18.5.2026 10:00:00 CEST | Skansen open-air museum | Pressmeddelande
On 6 June, Sweden’s National Day will be celebrated at Skansen in Stockholm – the historic birthplace of the tradition itself. Since 1893, visitors have gathered at the open-air museum to celebrate Sweden with music, folk culture, ceremonies and summer festivities, making Skansen one of the country’s most iconic places to experience the national holiday.

Today, historic traditions and contemporary celebrations come together in a full day programme across the park, culminating in Sweden’s official National Day ceremony in the evening.
Throughout the day, guests can explore historic houses and farmsteads, experience traditional crafts and folk culture, enjoy music and performances, and take part in family activities across the park. For international visitors, the celebration offers a rare opportunity to experience Swedish traditions, history and royal ceremony in the setting where the country’s National Day celebrations first began.
The Royal Family and Sweden’s official celebrations
The evening programme at Solliden stage forms Sweden’s official National Day celebration and is broadcast live on Swedish television channel SVT. One of the evening’s highlights is the traditional arrival of the Royal Family in a horse-drawn carriage procession.
The ceremony also includes speeches, the presentation of Swedish flags, the raising of the national flag and the Swedish national anthem, alongside performances by some of Sweden’s best-known artists and musicians.
Among this year’s performers are Lisa Nilsson, Åsa Jinder, Tjuvjakt featuring Simon Strömstedt, Magnus Carlson and Tensta Gospel Choir. The evening is hosted by Anne Lundberg and Fouad Youcefi.
