Twin moose calves born at Skansen in Stockholm
23.6.2026 13:45:00 CEST | Skansen open-air museum | Pressmeddelande
Two moose calves have been born at open-air museum Skansen in Stockholm, Sweden. The newborn twins are a welcome addition to one of Sweden’s most iconic animals and a species closely associated with the country’s forests and wildlife.

The moose is the largest land mammal in Sweden and a powerful symbol of the country’s forests and wildlife. The two male calves were born in late May and can already be seen exploring their surroundings alongside their mother. Moose calves are able to stand and move around shortly after birth and typically stay with their mother for their first year.
– Welcoming new moose calves is always a special moment at Skansen, and having twins this year is particularly exciting. The moose holds a unique place in Swedish nature and culture, and many of our guests look forward to seeing moose when they visit Sweden. These calves also provide an opportunity to inspire curiosity and share knowledge about one of the country’s most iconic animals, says Henrietta Seward, Head of the Wild Animal Department at Skansen.
Earlier this year, the moose was added to Sweden’s national Red List for the first time. While the species remains common across much of the country, the listing reflects a long-term decline in the national population.
