Collaboration on Power Semiconductors and Advanced Materials

The partnership builds on a solid foundation of existing joint activities. With the MoU, both partners commit to strengthening practical academia–industry cooperation through joint research, talent exchange, international symposia, and internship programs.

“What is so exciting about this initiative is how well we complement each other. In Sweden, we have advanced research in the area, and South Korea has R&D paired with industrial expertise and scale that is unique in the world. Together, we can truly drive progress in sustainable energy,” says Björn Samel, Head of Smart Hardware at RISE.

“As IKEEE President and head of Korea’s national WBG talent-development initiatives, I see tremendous value in combining Sweden’s world-class research with Korea’s fast-growing industrial ecosystem. Our collaboration with RISE will help bridge advanced science with real-world technologies for EVs, power grids and AI data centers. Together, we can build a highly impactful model for next-generation power-electronics innovation,” emphasized Professor Sang-Mo Koo of Kwangwoon University and General Chair of ICSCRM 2025.

Key areas of collaboration under the MoU include:

• Joint research on defect analysis and process optimization for advanced materials.
• Exchange of graduate students, researchers, and technical professionals between Korea and Sweden.
• Co-hosting of international symposia to facilitate knowledge sharing and innovation.
• Technology-policy seminars and wider academic–industrial cooperation in the power semiconductor field.
  
  

The MoU underscores a mutual commitment to developing the next generation of global talent, driving innovation in power semiconductor technology, and reinforcing the long-term competitiveness of both nations in this strategically critical field.
