Exclusive auction at the Royal Swedish Opera - significant from the opera house’s performance history

The Royal Swedish Opera's collection is unique and contains pieces of exemplary craftsmanship from the Opera's own workshops. On October 24, the Royal Opera in Stockholm will open the doors to the Golden Foyer, for an exclusive auction of more than 50 carefully selected items, several of which are considered to be among the most significant from the opera house’s performance history.
Among the objects is Cinderella’s carriage from Tchaikovsky's ballet, principle dancer Anneli Alhanko’s Toreador suit from the ballet The Toreador and Lars Wallin's famous costume for Jurgita Dronina in the ballet Gustav III. The auction will also include a number of beautiful objects that have been used in the sets of the Opera’s performances.
The Royal Swedish Opera’s costume department has a unique position as one of the few remaining opera house tailoring workshops in the world. Everything is still made from scratch. Each costume is sewn specifically for a role – and a singer or dancer. And the costumes are frequently designed by famous names.
The proceeds from the Opera’s sales and auctions go to its activities for children and young people.
Below is a brief description of some of the items that will be auctioned in Guldfoajén at the Royal Swedish Opera on October 24 at 6.30 pm, led by famous auctioneer from Barnebys’, Pontus Silfverstolpe. Thanks to Stockholms Auktionsverk, it will also be possible to bid online (closing at 5.00 pm).
